...return to Past Projects main page PEGASUS 55 The Pegasus 55 project, commissioned by internationally recognized yachtsman Philippe Kahn, represents the most detailed work to date by David Lake Yachting Projects. Pegasus 55 is the culmination of an extensive custom project (see press releases) that spanned eighteen months. This was a truly custom project, commencing with a "clean sheet of paper" and a client with a strong desire to achieve his personal goals. The project's goals encompassed the following criteria: David Lake Yachting Projects was contracted to manage the overall construction process and worked in close association with Alan Andrews Yacht Design. Specific project management services included: Project Summary Philippe Kahn commissioned Alan Andrews Yacht Design to design Pegasus 55 as a versatile yacht with cruiser/racer characteristics in mind. This boat is different from many cruiser / racers in that it is fully fitted out for cruising and living aboard as well as equipped for racing. Hull and deck construction is carbon pre-preg on a combination of balsa and honeycomb cores, vacuum bagged and post cured. As you can see from the photograph, teak decks are incorporated and not readily visible are the under deck control lines running to the cockpit in watertight tubes and channels. In addition, the completely flush deck hatches have an integral drainage system. Down below, the photographs show the extent of furniture fit out with no painted composite work, but all structure covered by cabinetry (light veneered panels and solid mahogany trim), upholstery, wood slats on the hull sides, or vinyl headliner above. The equipment list below decks includes all that would be expected from a superior quality luxury yacht. Pressurized hot and cold water with Hans Grohe fixtures and stainless steel sinks, complimented by veneered corian counter tops. There are two heads which include showers and electric toilets with holding tanks. The fresh water supply can be replenished at sea by a desalinator. Pegasus 55 is fitted with extensive electrical and electronics systems. This includes radar, chart plotter, Mini-M, sat C, Brookes and Gatehouse sea station, SSB, VHF, Deckman, GPS, Navtex and a stereo system. Cantalupi lighting fixtures with remote switches and dimmers where required provide excellent lighting. Safety was a high priority for this project and all safety equipment including bilge pumps meets or exceeds the Offshore Racing Council's requirements for Category 1. The life raft is stowed on deck in a dedicated life raft locker for fast deployment. David Lake Yachting Projects involvement with this project continues with post construction consulting. Fact File
